Unusual Looking Residence in Slovakia : Dom Zlomu
This unusual looking residence comes from PaulA ny Hovorka Architekti and is situated in the small village of KynceA ovA , close to the townA of BanskA Bystrica, Slovakia. The house has a beautiful natural surrounding landscape and overlooks the Tatra mountains. You probably wonder how come this home has such a strange shape. At first this is what got our attention also and we checked into it. We found out that the client wanted a single storey construction and a maximum amount of natural daylight. But due to the unfriendly circumstances ("the unusual shape and eastward sloping of the site"), the architects came up with a unique plan: an "L"-shaped building with a large and impressive residential floor sustained by a smaller ground level. The first floor hosts all the living spaces- split into day and night, while the ground level houses the garage and the ancillary rooms. We particularly like the way the upper level is cantilevered towards the street and we believe this is one of the strong features of this home's architecture.

Eye Catching Victorian Duplex in San Francisco
Envelope A+D from Oakland, USA recently renovated and redesigned this Victorian duplex located in Noe Valley, San Francisco. With an interesting black exterior, these stacked apartments could remind one of the Adams Family. We imagine this house looks quite unusual when correlated to its neighborhood context, but this is far from being a negative aspect. Its originality increases as one steps inside due to the vivid colors and uncommon wall paintings that can be observed all throughout this odd looking crib. A studio animates the first floor, while the second level houses the living room, kitchen and dining area. Accentuated hues of red and blue add some strong visual effects to this place and interesting decorating items can be found all around. Impressive Contemporary Extension to Old Farmhouse in Austria
Even though we consider combining modern architecture with that of old constructions can be very tricky and sometimes unsuccessful, the Flag Residence, a 200 year old farmhouse, looks incredible with this new contemporary addition from Propeller Z. The home is located in Fahndorf, Austria within a beautiful and friendly natural landscape so the project had to be in consonance with the environmental factor. While the rest of the home seems to be buried in the ground, the new construction is elevated, which is said to create a connection with the other homes nearby. We particularly like the wood stack, as it gives this extension a warm and rustic feel. The addition houses a kitchen and a living room and features large floor to ceiling windows for a good indoor/outdoor communication.
